We Look For To Ensure That We Match Like-Minded Players: Sea Of Thieves Interview With Rare’s Gregg Mayles
Knowing what’s what could save you embarrassment and discomfort when you choose to accent your lobes, There are plenty of options whenever it boils down to these sparkly ear bobs.
The argument going to be made that diamond earrings are always an appropriate accessory as they go with absolutely any outfit. Everything you see, We also wanted everything in the game to have a social nature to it, from raising the capstan to lowering the sails, to working gether as a team, we apply that to everything we put in the game.
It’s a physical map on a table down below decks, when it came round to putting a map into the game.
So here is the question. It encourages players to go downstairs and look at the map like you’d look at a map in real lifespan, and pointing to it and saying stuff like, we’re here, shall we go over there?
It’s not a bunch of players individually looking at a HUD in the p left corner -it promotes players and the crew actually looking at an object and deciding what to do.
Because everyone’s really conscious of all these other ships around them, What we found is that if there’re on earth, it stops the experience from being emergent, and you’re always on your guard.
It made it this better game, when we lessened the general amount of ships. Sometimes you can play for half an hour and you can’t see a ship. We’re still operating that prototype, and it lets us experiment and find what’s right for the game. The real beauty is that you never know what you’re preparing to get. Right from the start, we built a very simple prototype. After that, the in the future you play, you might come across one. Oftentimes you’re never quite sure what’s intending to happen and what the outcome will be, when ships come together. So, I believe that’s the really interesting thing about an emergent world -if everyone knew what was planning to happen, I reckon you’d only play that for so long before you’d lose interest.
I believe the beauty of Sea of Thieves and the thing we really seek for to bring is players gether in a shared world, co operating together.
The more things players can do together, the better And so it’s.
We sync the music it feels like you’re playing gether like a band, when one player starts up and another player joins in. That’s why you can play musical instruments together. Everything we put into the game, we’re always thinking about how will it promote social interaction between players? This is the case. Ultimately, we look for players to be the stars of the game. We’ll put more in, maybe there aren’t enough quests. As a result, We seek for players to become the legendary pirates and have legendary ships. We’re planning to develop the game in stages and listen to what the community wants. Now look. We’re not will be putting legendary ships and characters into the game. We’ll consider putting that in, if they’re saying there’s not enough customization.
Thanks to films and TV programs, you don’t need to tell players a number of players together, put them globally, and off you go. Remember, You don’t need to tell players how to steer a ship, or how to lower the sails, or how to use a telescope -you just know. You see, as long as we wanted to have no barriers to play, That was really important to us. We need to ensure that we match likeminded players. We don’t need to match players who just look for to mess around globally with people who are really focused on achieving something -that wouldn’t work.
We seek for to bring those together, Therefore if you have a bunch of players who seek for to go on quests. Now let me tell you something. The recently announced Looking for Group Xbox One functionality is perfectly in line with where we look for to go. We thought yeah -that’s perfect for us, when the platform guys came along and said that ooking for Group was being developed as a platform level feature.
Players can decide what they seek for to do, get themselves together, and come into the game.
The trailer we showed at the presentation with the characters frozen in time -that represents where the game is preparing to go, and the vision for the future.
We just needed to pick something from our game that suits the E3 environment that players can play for 1520″ minutes to get an idea of what’s at the core of the game -and that’s coming gether as a crew and sailing on a ship together. That represents where we’re preparing to go, and the different things type we need to make possible across the world.
While going on quests, diving down into the sea to find treasure, and fighting a kraken, like players exploring islands, All the different things we’re should be introducing into the game. What we brought to E3, and the trailer you’ve seen of the gameplay footage is a small sliver of what we see the full experience to be. We need to get players involved and try to align to their needs as much as possible, rather than us as designers making a two or threeyear plan and designing an entire game and hoping people like it. We wanted to riff on that social makeup. We felt if we could put players gether as a group, it creates an interesting social dynamic. Normally, What world shall we put these players into? Eventually, finally, we needed a theme. You see, we wanted to look at the way we put players into the world. Anyways, it’s significantly better than doing it on your personal, Therefore in case you put a small group of players gether in a room and get them doing something together. I’m sure you heard about this. As long as we put the pirate one up, that was the one, we had all these different ideas up on the wall.
